Convert any web page to Markdown

Paste a URL and get the main content as clean Markdown — navigation, ads, cookie banners and footers removed before you see a word.

Free, no account. One page at a time, read the way a plain fetch reads it. For a whole site, on a schedule, or through the API, start free with 1,000 credits.

01why convert

Why turn a web page into Markdown

A modern page is perhaps a tenth content. The rest is navigation, a cookie banner, a newsletter prompt, three share bars and a footer with every link on the site. Converting the URL to Markdown throws that away and keeps the article, which is what you wanted from the page in the first place.

  • Fewer tokens, better answers: a model given the whole HTML spends most of its context on the menu. Main-content Markdown is typically a fraction of the size, and what is left is the part worth reasoning over.
  • RAG that retrieves the right thing: if every chunk of every page contains the same navigation, every chunk looks alike to a retriever. Strip it and the chunks differ by what they actually say.
  • Reading and keeping: Markdown pastes into notes, tickets and docs, and it diffs — so two versions of a page can be compared.
02what is removed

Main content only

Navigation, headers, footers, sidebars, consent banners, share bars and “was this helpful” widgets are removed — by their markup where a known vendor put them there, and by shape where nobody did. Headings, lists, tables, code blocks and links survive, because those carry meaning.

One honest limit: this free tool reads the page the way a plain fetch reads it. A site that renders its article with JavaScript will come back thin or empty here, and the tool will say so. Rendering in a real browser is a rung up the ladder, which is what an account buys.

03and the other formats

Markdown, plain text or the HTML itself

FormatUse it when
MarkdownFeeding a model, chunking for RAG, keeping something readable
Plain textThe structure does not matter and the token count does
Clean HTMLYou want the boilerplate gone but your own parser to see the markup
Raw HTMLYou are diagnosing why a page converted badly

All four come off the same fetch on an account, alongside links, screenshots and structured JSON fields.

04beyond one page

A whole website to Markdown

Converting one URL is a tool; converting a documentation site is a crawl. Point a project at the site, choose Markdown, and export the run as JSONL or as a single llms-full.txt. Run it weekly and you also get what changed — which is the part that matters once the corpus exists.

questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a URL to Markdown?

Paste the URL above. The page is fetched, the boilerplate is removed and the main content comes back as Markdown you can copy.

Can I convert a whole website to Markdown?

Yes, with a crawl rather than this tool: point a project at the site, choose Markdown as the format, and export the run as JSONL or as one llms-full.txt file.

Why did my page come back empty or very short?

Almost always because the page builds its content with JavaScript, and this free tool does a plain fetch. A real browser reads those, which is a rung up the ladder and needs an account.

Does it keep tables and code blocks?

Yes. Headings, lists, tables, code fences and links all survive the conversion; only the page furniture is dropped.

Is there an API for this?

Yes — one POST to /scrape with formats: ["markdown"] returns the same thing, for one URL or five hundred, with the boilerplate rules under your control.
